At Las Bambas, we're committed to improving the well-being of our host communities by collectively promoting and performing different activities.
Social Investment
In 2022, the costs for our operations exceeded 28 M USD. From this amount, a significant portion was allocated to promoting local education and health, as well as initiatives for reforestation, agriculture, and local business development. Our host communities also received support for their long-term development plans (2030).
Local Employment
One of the most considerable local and regional economic impacts is generated due to the economic activity from our operations in the area. An example of this is the creation of direct and indirect employment for the Southern Macro Region, especially for the Apurimac population.
In 2022, we recorded 2,826 direct and indirect local workers, of which 32% were from the Apurimac region.
The provinces from which most direct and indirect workers come are Cotabambas, Abancay, and Andahuaylas. The graph below shows the trend of direct and indirect local employment in the Apurimac region, with a continuous increase since 2018.
To promote local employment, we have implemented different educational programs to train and enhance the skills of the local population. In 2022, we conducted a Plant and Mine training program with members of the Fuerabamba community.
Local Suppliers
We acknowledge the significance of having suppliers for goods and services that align with high operational and sustainability standards, as well as adhering to industry best practices. Their contributions are essential to ensuring the effective operations at our site.
As part of our value chain, we require support services for mining, energy, logistics, and other activities related to fixed and movable plant assets.
In 2022, purchases in Cotabambas and Grau, in our Area of Direct Influence (AID) amounted to 64.6 M USD, an increase from the 2021 expenditure. Additionally, international purchases totalled 47.4 M USD.
