Human Rights

MMG is committed to respecting the human rights of our employees, contractors, supply chain workers, and the communities where we operate.

Our commitment to respect human rights is outlined in our Human Rights Policy and we integrate human rights considerations into our Code of Conduct our Supplier Code of Conduct, policies, frameworks, standards, work quality requirements, processes, risk assessments, training and grievance mechanisms.

Human Rights Due Diligence

We conduct ongoing human rights due diligence to identify, prevent, mitigate, and account for risks and impacts.

Meaningful participation of affected and potentially affected rights holders is ensured through consultation processes.

We also recognise the important role of human rights defenders in strengthening these efforts.

Our Commitment:
Respect for Human Rights

We are committed to providing for or cooperating in remedy where we identify that we have caused or contributed to an adverse human rights impact and considering the role we may play in remediation where we are directly linked to an adverse human rights impact.

Las Bambas holds a Human Rights Committee which is a cross-functional group (10 departments) responsible for developing and implementing action plans to manage human rights issues across the company. We are also an active member of the Human Rights Committee of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy.

Grievance mechanism

We strive for timely and accurate management of community grievances. For that reason, we have an official, accessible, equitable, transparent and effective mechanism in line with human rights to report concerns confidentially and without fear of reprisal.

Our reporting channels:

Employment

We are committed to respecting the labour rights of our employees, contractors, and supply chain workers, including those relating to health and safety, non-discrimination, freedom of association, collective bargaining, fair wages, and reasonable working hours.

We reject all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, and child labour, which is why we are firmly committed to preventing these practices throughout our company and supply chain.

Social Impacts

We aim to prevent and minimise adverse social impacts throughout the lifecycle of our operations. We implemented processes to manage human rights risks related to land access, resettlement, cultural heritage, and small-scale and artisanal mining.

Our Social Performance Standard requires Social Baseline Studies and Social Impact and Opportunities Assessments (SIOAs) to be conducted at the start of operations and every five years or upon any material change.

Environment and Climate Change

We aim to prevent and minimise adverse environmental impacts throughout the lifecycle of our operations. We implemented processes to manage human rights risks related to closure, water stewardship, tailings, biodiversity, ecosystems, pollution and waste.

We understand the connection between environmental impacts, climate change and human rights, which is why we are working on minimising our environmental footprint while contributing to the global transition towards a low-carbon economy.
